Best of the Week – 3512

Here we go with with this weeks edition of Best of the Week.

Movie Trailer of the Week:
Taken 2 – In theatres October 5th, 2012
http://youtu.be/VpaT8NzkLgE?hd=1
Need I say more, then this is the sequel to the film that gave us this legendary quote:
“I don’t know who you are. I don’t know what you want. If you are looking for ransom, I can tell you I don’t have money. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for people like you. If you let my daughter go now, that’ll be the end of it. I will not look for you, I will not pursue you. But if you don’t, I will look for you, I will find you, and I will kill you. ”
And who doesn’t want to see more of Liam Neeson.
P.S. Same plot as the first one… basically.

Video of the Week:
Tinker vs. The Caterpillar

I shot this one, and it’s my doxie… what else can I say.

News Article of the Week:
Elderly lady ‘restores’ church fresco.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19349921
The great Spanish Fresco last week

An elderly parishioner took it upon herself to restore 100+ years of moisture damage to ‘Ecce Homo’, and the results were, well, shall we say a little shocking… Except to the internet, who have adopted it as it’s newest meme.

eBay Auction of the Week:

Suppose you’re into leather? Suppose you’ve recently finished reading 50 Shades of Grey? Suppose you like My Little Pony? Now you can combine all your favourites with this leather bondage horse mask?????

Awesome Software of the Week:
Planetside 2
http://www.planetside2.com/
The long awaited sequel to one of my favourite MMO‘s is now in closed beta. Planetside is one of the only MMOFPS games ever, and probably the most popular. I was a big fan of the never ending combat, and the ability to jump online, run around for as long as I wanted, and then just leave… something that is hard to do in other online games that require, among other things… RAIDS. I can’t wait for it to come out, or when I finally get my beta invite… and best of all, it will be free to play!

As always, I’m still open to suggestions for other categories, and for nominations to get included on the list. You can let me know at: oftheweekATleighcDOTcom

Best of the Week – 3412

Here we go with with this weeks edition of Best of the Week… after a long summer break, hope you didn’t miss me to much.

Movie Trailer of the Week:
Hit & Run – In theatres August 22nd 2012

Not the big budget Hollywood film you might have been expecting, no, this is a much smaller venture almost entirely put together by Dax Shepard, who is probably one of the luckiest guys in the world, as he is dating Kristen Bell, who I think is one of the sexiest ladies in the world (say the bit in italics like Jeremy Clarkson… do it!). The movie is also stars Shepard, Bell, Tom Arnold and Bradley Cooper.

Music Video of the Week:
PSY – Gangnam Style

I’m not even sure what the heck this is about, but apparently, Gangnam is the rich part of Seoul, and let’s be honest here, it is much better than half… no, make that three quarters of the crap that is coming out of recording studios over here now.

News Article of the Week:
Curiosity Rover goes out for its first drive.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-19342994

Houston, we have motion. Yup, they did a quick systems check on the little rover to make sure that the wheels, and in turn, all of the locomotion system was functioning correctly. This is good news, since this is one heck of an expensive science experiment… something close to $2.5 billion US has/will be spent on this.

eBay Auction of the Week:
Oxygen Bar/Aroma Bar
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oxygen-bar-Aroma-bar-4-Top-/221112926752?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item337b5b8220#ht_500wt_1156
I’m pretty sure this fad died out more than a decade ago, but hey, if you have $650 to burn, you can have your own 4 top (4 person) O2 bar. Oh, and this guy needs to get a real camera and stop using his iPhone to take pictures.

Awesome Software of the Week:
War Thunder
http://warthunder.com/
It’s probably not fair of me to post a game here… let alone one that is still in beta… a beta that I happen to be partaking in. The game combines some of my favourite things… it’s a Free 2 Play game (of course you can buy boosters and stuff) and it involves aerial combat with World War 2 aircraft. You can play in missions, go head to head in massive battles and they are working on what they refer to as ‘Dynamic Campaigns’, where you can change the out come of real battles.

As always, I’m still open to suggestions for other categories, and for nominations to get included on the list. You can let me know at: oftheweekATleighcDOTcom

Best of the Week – 2712

Here we go with with this weeks edition of Best of the Week.

Movie Trailer of the Week:
Total Recall – In theatre August 3rd 2012

Oh no, I did it again, selected a remake of a film from the 90’s, but this time, it is a retake on one of the best films from that decade. 1990’s Total Recall which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger was an amazing bit of science fiction, and did okay with the special effects that were available at the time. I hope the remake can do it justice.

Video of the Week:
Meet the Pyro

The latest video in the ‘Meet the’ series of videos, used as promotional material for the Team Fortress 2 game, they finally give us the Pyro… and I lol’d.

News Article of the Week:
CERN Discovers ‘God Particle’, Internet scuffs at use of Comic Sans
http://www.cbc.ca/news/yourcommunity/2012/07/do-you-use-the-comic-sans-font.html
CernWhat is probably the greatest discovery of our life times, CERN has confirmed (99.9% sure) that they have discovered the Higgs-Boson particle, they decided to use what is considered the worst font ever to use in the presentation that they used to explain to the press on site. Oh Comic Sans, the internet has absolutely no love for you.

eBay Auction of the Week:
Plastination(?) Mummified Cow Brain
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PLASTINATION-100-REAL-BRAIN-PRESERVED-TAXIDERMY-OOAK-ANATOMY-SPECIMEN-MUMMIFIED-/180917147165?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1f80961d#ht_888wt_1270
Just what every collector needs, and it’s definitely cheaper than this guy, who is selling his baby teeth.

Awesome Software of the Week:
Scratch
http://scratch.mit.edu/
Wow, this is a wonderful little project I stumbled upon recently. It is a project put together by the MIT Media Lab and the Lifelong Kindergarten Group, and it is a programming language that makes it easy to create your own interactive stories, animations, games, music, and art — and share your creations on the web. This is so easy, I had a cat dancing across the work area within 5 minutes, and some of the projects online are amazing.

I’m still open to suggestions for other categories, and for nominations to get included on the list. You can let me know at: oftheweekATleighcDOTcom

Best of the Week – 2612

Here we go with with this weeks edition of Best of the Week.

Movie Trailer of the Week:
Dredd – In theatre September 21st 2012

I don’t always get excited about a reboot/remake, but when I do, I expect awesomesauce. Yes, they are doing a reboot of the 1995 Judge Dredd which starred Sylvester Stallone. Now, the 1995 film wasn’t the best received, or well liked film… but this reboot does look good… and at least they waited 17 years to remake, unlike Spider Man.

Music Mash Up Awesomeness of the Week:
Sarah Donner and The OatmealThe Motherf*cking Pterodactyl

Warning: Language!
Matthew Inman runs The Oatmeal, a fricking awesome site with web comics, odd quizzes and more… and it’s all pure internet genius. Sarah Donner is an indie musician with her own record label, oh, and she loves cats. Together, they created one of the best videos ever.
Currently, Matthew and The Oatmeal are in a bit of a sticky wicket, as another website is trying to sue them for slander… but Matthew decided to leverage this and try and do some good, to the tune of raising $200,000+ to split between the National Wildlife Federation and the American Cancer Society. Here’s a recent article on the shenanigans that are going on.

News Article of the Week:
Google Nexus 7
http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/nexus-7-review/
Shut up and Take my moneyShut up and take my money! Google teamed up with Asus to make the Kindle Fire killer. The specs are amazing, a quad core cpu, 8 or 16gb or storage, 1280×800 display, and all for $199 ($209 in Canada), and add $50 to jump to 16gb. All it is really missing is HDMI out and expandable memory, though the second thing is negated by cloud storage.

eBay Auction of the Week:
4″ Kangaroo Scrotum Leather Pouch
http://www.ebay.com/itm/EL900-1-4-KANGAROO-SCROTUM-Leather-POUCH-coin-purse-WEIRD-ball-bag-hide-roo-/300728029561?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4604c99179#ht_945wt_1037
Umm, well at least they got the ‘Pouch’ part. I was going to link to some collector popcorn, but the auction ends too soon.

I’m still open to suggestions for other categories, and for nominations to get included on the list. You can let me know at: oftheweekATleighcDOTcom

Best of the Week – 2312

A little note here, you’ll notice the number in the title. It is to represent the week and year, this being the 23rd week of the year, and the year being 2012.
Now, on with the show.

Best new movie preview of the week:
Wreck-it Ralph – In theaters November 2nd, 2012
http://youtu.be/GHDQHVkYq4g?hd=1
This film screams nerdgasm. A video game character who leaves his game to try and switch from the bad side to the good side… and cameos by some of the most recognized video game characters ever.

Music Mash up Mix of the week:
Mister Rogers Remixed – Gardens of your mind

If you ever saw this man on television, you’ll get it. They don’t make shows like this any more, and Mister Rogers Neighbourhood was one of the best children’s tv shows of all time.

 eBay auction of the week:
Alien fetus in a jar (with after birth!)
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/ROSWELL-ALIEN-SPECIMEN-FETUS-JAR-SIDESHOW-GAFF-MOVIE-PROP-HALLOWEEN-AREA-51-/180898518779?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a1e6456fb#ht_819wt_1270
It’s a good thing that it says prop, as I am sure there are people out there who would actually believe that this is real… in fact, I probably know a few.

Kijiji post of the week:
Short Fat Guy Moving – This one if for you Micah
http://alberta.kijiji.ca/c-services-moving-storage-Short-Fat-Guy-Moving-W0QQAdIdZ386435239
It was the title that grabbed my eye, since I know a few ‘Short Fat Guys’. I must say, well played man, this ad is definitely and attention getter, and your rates seem decent.

News article of the week:
Nakawic boy creates band album art
http://www.cbc.ca/nb/mt/east-coast-music/2012/06/nackawic-boy-creates-bands-album-art.html
Wyatt Band LogoKids, don’t give up your dreams. This involves a young kid that drew a picture, had it posted at a cat show, it was noticed by a band that was in the area, and now it’s the cover of their album.
The band is called The Danger Bees btw… I might have to check them out.
